Cake Smash | First Birthday Party

If you are following the super stylish Aimee Tarulli on Instagram (if you’re not, we definitely recommend checking this awesome Mumma out for some serious style inspo), you will have no doubt seen the fantastic images of her daughter Rosie’s first birthday cake smash!

Not only did birthday girl Rosie look absolutely adorable decked out in her Tutu Du Monde Onesie and Petite Bling Flower Crown Headband, Aimee also created one of the best styled cake smashes we have ever seen!

From the colourful fringe backdrop, to the Coconut Chiffon Cake, we are in head over heels in love with this incredible cake smash styling!

A beautiful and fun way to capture your little ones first birthday, as well as what is often the first time they have tried cake, Aimee has shared with us some great tips on what you need to create your very own cake smash!

Find The Space

Start with a clear 2.5m x 2.5m area at home, preferably a blank white wall with good lighting

A Fun Backdrop

To create the fringe backdrop, Aimee used 9x pre-cut fringed crepe papers (2.4m x 50cm) from Poppies for Grace. She alternated the colours and just blutack to stick each row to the wall.

Jazz it up!

Add some extra decorations. Aimee used 2x Honeycomb Fancies from Poppies for Grace.

Create a smash-ing cake

Bake a light cake (A light cake will make it easier for your baby to break into, so avoid using fondant). Aimee’s delicious Coconut Chiffon Cake was made using a recipe from Emily at Food Babies Love, and was decorated with strawberries and an “R” and “ONE” cake topper from Poppies for Grace.

Clean Up

Lay down a sheet on the floor- trust us, this makes clean up time a whole lot easier!

And you’re ready to snap away as your baby goes crazy with their cake!!
