Yes, it’s that time of year again! The Christmas carols have started, the lights and decorations are beginning to go up and pretty soon you will probably be expecting a visit from The Elf on The Shelf. He’s fun, cute and has become somewhat of a Christmas tradition in household’s all over the world.

However, if this little guy makes a visit to your house every December, finding new and exciting hiding spots for Santa’s little helper can be hard! We went on a search to find some of the funniest and most creative Elf on The Shelf ideas that will have the whole family laughing out loud!

Now, if you are not familiar with the Elf on The Shelf craze that has taken Christmas by storm, this is how it works. A special Elf is sent from the North Pole to help Santa Claus keep an eye on who is behaving (Alternatively, you can purchase your very own Elf on The Shelf right here on Tinitrader). Each night, the elf magically goes back to the North Pole to report back to Santa about all of the day’s adventures. The next morning, the elf returns to his family, positioning himself in another location within the house.

Children love to wake up and race around the house looking for their special Elf friend each morning, with Elf on The Shelf becoming a highlight of the Christmas period for many families. Here are some of Tinitrader’s faviourite Elf on The Shelf ideas to try out this year!

So you forgot to move the Elf….

Uh oh! The kids will be up any minute and your Elf on The Shelf is still perched in the very same position as the day before. Here are a few of our favourite excuses for why your elf may not have moved.

  • He was so tired he must have fallen asleep before you did! Being an Elf can be hard work.

  • You must have been so good that he didn’t need to fly to Santa last night!

  • He must be giving you a second chance to make Santa’s nice list after how naughty you were yesterday!

  • He loved this spot so much he decided to come back!

  • He must have heard someone get out of bed and was scared you might see him move!

  • It’s a trick! Kids often do not think to look in the same place again. This is a trick elves often like to play!

  • You must have gone to bed too late last night! Often an elf will fall asleep while waiting for kids to go to sleep. You must go to bed on time to ensure there is enough time for him to get to the North Pole and back.

  • Poor elf is sick. Sometimes even elves get sick and will stay in the same spot for a while.

  • Blame the weather – It was far too hot/cold/rainy/windy last night for him to travel all the way back to the North Pole!
