Mama's Home | Stores we Love

Mama's Home in Windsor QLD is home to a gorgeous range of kids and ladies fashion, decor, toys & more. We learn more about Amanda in our latest Stores we Love feature.

We all know there's no place like home and there's certainly no children's boutique quite like Mama's Home!

With a great eye for new brands, special kids gifts and beautiful products, owner of Mama's Home, Amanda, has created a kids store that is truly one of the best in Queensland.

We learn more about Mama's Home and what's hot this summer in our chat with Amanda.

1. Tell us a little about your background – what path led you to opening your own store and to where you are today?

I have a varied background. I am an Educational Psychologist and worked for many years in this industry and then began with online educational and developmental toys and products.

I purchased Mama’s Home 3.5 years ago. It was an already established store and I am the third owner of this amazing store. The store is iconic in Brisbane and had been around for 15 years. We have moved this iconic store forward with a new website and building social media connections through Facebook and Instagram.

2. What do you love about your business?

There are so many things that I love about this business, but the main is the physical store where our customers can walk in and experience Mama’s Home, its size, and the beautiful displays.

I love buying the products, building stories through them, and creating imagination for children’s play environments, bedrooms and birthday gifts. I love selling the customers excitement and happiness over the products in store.

3. Tinitrader is loving all the fashion and new season products from Mama’s Home. What are your top picks for this summer?

Top picks for summer this season would definitely be Paper Wings. I absolutely love this Australian brand, the style of the clothing and the addition of the boys range.

The new Bella and Lace that has just landed is a top pick, particularly the detailed vests.

Minti is also a must for the season, the ease of this brand for children to wear, the quality of the pieces and the cute fun factor is brilliant.

4. What trends have you seen emerge this summer?

Colour tones from ladies fashion have been seen through the children’s clothing as well, including the chartreuse colour tones, navy and mustards, and maxi skirts and dresses. These are just so fresh and sweet on little ones.

For the girls, accessories are a must, such as a purse or handbag, hair clips and hair bows, sunglasses, necklaces and bangles.

For the boys, navy and red appears to be the colour palette of choice, keeping the styles and cuts classic and fun.

5. Any up and coming brands of note?

We are loving the new swimwear brand Salty Ink. It is an Australian brand. The cuts and styles are wonderful and the quality is high, with a chlorine resistant range as well.

6. We love your handy gift suggestions. What have been the most popular gifts in store for boys and girls?

For girls: accessories such as purses, handbags, hairclips, and key chains are hugely popular. We in fact have our own range of these that sell well in store. Bedroom interior gifts, such as wall prints and frames sell well, and storage solutions such as our hand-made apple baskets. Our Top Model and Djeco ranges are always popular for birthday presents.

For boys: our active gifts range is a winner, including science and dinosaur kits, creation and model building kits, and outdoor activity sets. Inflatable pool toys are a huge hit at the moment for both boys and girls.

7. How do you balance work and family?

It is a really tough thing to do at times, having a good work and family balance. I have two daughters aged, 8 and 10 years, and want to send as much time as possible with both of them. I have an amazing husband and a very supportive family and group of friends, so somehow we just make it work.

8. Who are you following on Instagram?

At the moment I love @chamila97 and her photographic work. She is an amazing Brisbane mum and a customer in store. I am also loving @thestylingmama @myhamptonshome @fee_loves who have been doing styling and brand rep shots for me.

I follow hundreds of people, loving the inspiration from them and how they see the world. @tinitrader of course is a great one! I follow each brand we sell in store and the bloggers that love these brands.

9. What’s next for Mama’s Home?

In the new year we are hoping to renovate our store and have a new fresh look to Mama’s Home. I am very excited by this next step and adventures (based on the sheer size of the store!).
