The Tinitrader team are thrilled to have super star kids interior stylist, Kate Sparks, join us to style various spaces at Tinitrader's Sydney Pop Up.
We were lucky enough to sit down with Kate to learn more her blog, Little Dwellings and were completely inspired by her passion for styling and all things creative!
1. Tell us a little about your background – what path led you to becoming a stylist, and to doing what you’re doing today?
My background is in preschool teaching, after finishing my degree in Early Childhood Education I worked in the industry for 3 years before starting our family.
The path that lead me to where I am today is a bit of a strange one... My hubby has always encouraged me to look into changing my career as he saw how passionate I was about interiors. Me just thinking it was him being sweet never took him seriously but I was also being told by a number of others that I should also consider it! The real turning point for me was a mothers group dinner hosted at my house. It was then that I was strongly encouraged to open my own business & do what I love doing.
The couples there saw that I had a passion for interiors & complimented my style & taste. That night when everyone went home I sat down & look into it more closely... By the morning I had decided to give it a go.
2. How did you first start out in the industry?
Once I decided that I was going to give this a go I needed a starting point, this is when I decided to design my own children's bedroom as my portfolio base.
I also started by creating an Instagram account where I could network and hopefully draw in potential clients. Instagram has proven to be much more powerful than I had ever imagined.
3. How would you describe your work?
Although primarily I started out as a children's interior designer, my work is much more varied than just for children. Work for me ranges from children to adults, I designing rooms for international clients, provide eBoard designs, trade shows, product styling, room installations, Skype calls & even showcasing brands in my own home.
4. What have been one or two favourite recent projects or commissions?
One of my absolute favourite rooms was 'Autumn's room'. This room was feminine, soft pastels & simply stunning. Definitely a highlight project for me.
5. What has been your proudest career achievement to date?
I wouldn't say that I have one proudest moment. I am astounded that my work is recognised all over the world. The amount of magazines & bloggers that have contacted me to feature my work has been encouraging & sometimes mind blowing.
6. What would be your dream creative project?
I guess I will go big for this one & say working with a client who is a celebrity. One day maybe one day...
7. What do you think about Tinitrader and the Tinitrader pop up?
Tinitrader provide retailers and the general public with the opportunity to keep up to date with the lastest and greatest products that are on trend. The pop up event brings them all under one roof & I personally can not wait to get involved in this event!!
