The First Room Reveal

April 24, 2015

It's time to get inspired with Tinitrader and Hello Little Birdie's nursery room reveal as part of Tinitrader's Style Series.

Tinitrader's Style Series will see various kids bedroom and baby nursery looks put together in collaboration with a selection of talented stylists. Each look is created using much loved kids and baby brands from retailers and designers across Australia.

We had a quick chat with our first stylist, Mel, from Hello Little Birdie and asked her some burning questions about the inspiration behind the first nursery room look and a little bit more about herself.

1.What was your inspiration behind the look for this particular nursery?

I love designing Nordic rooms and the inspiration for this nursery look stemmed from Scandinavian design, kids furniture and decor. I have achieved this using the canvas white, with a splash of colour and exposure to wood!

2.Where do you get your inspiration from?

My real inspiration comes from my two children, they really challenge me to do something different. Their little innocent smiles and the way they love life pushes me to do something unique and special with each of my projects. The rest of my family also inspires me: all of their personalities make me realise just how different everyone is. My designs themselves come from my love of fashion and current trends – I can transform that dynamically into something that will become timeless. The great outdoors also gives me a lot of ideas; I love the beauty of nature and designing rooms incorporating these elements. I want to create kids bedrooms and nursery spaces where children want to play and hang out, where their imaginations can run wild, where they can create new things and continue learning. Somewhere magical, unique, fun, and inspiring . . . that never becomes outdated.

3.In your opinion, what is the biggest change you have seen in decorating kids rooms?

I’ve seen kids interiors shift from cartoon themed room to minimalistic, less clutter and on trend! Boys, move over Batman and girls, say goodbye to Mini Mouse. Minimalism, hello! It’s amazing how much has changed over the years.

4.What do you and your family get up to in your spare time?

We just love to hang out together, especially outdoors. The beach is our favourite past time. The kids get to run around like crazy and so do we. Being silly, making each other laugh, that’s what life is all about - enjoying the little moments.

5.What is your ideal Sunday?

Sunday is family day. We make time to leave the hustle and bustle of life behind and focus on spending time with one another!

6.What is your guilty pleasure you enjoy too much to give up?

It has to be shopping. I am addicted. If I can’t go to the shops, I shop online. I almost have to buy something new every day; whether it is clothes, decor items or food! I just want to buy. I can’t stop.

7.What is something that amazes you?

My kids of course. Each and every day they learn something new, say something, or develop a skill which blows my mind out the park. They are innovators in their own way, and keep trying new things, never giving up! I definitely take a leaf from their book. Such an inspiration.

8.What's your one tip to parents re-decorating their kids rooms - your signature styling tip?

Keep it minimal, less is more!! Always have at least one stand out piece and build your room around it.

In the first room reveal Mel has used the new Elephant Crib from Oeuf which gives the nursery a modern yet minimalistic look. The Oeuf Merlin 3 Drawer dresser compliments the cot and gives a practical yet stylish edge to the room. We were lucky to have Wilson & Frenchy’s latest winter range of bed linen used to complete the look, giving a perfect finishing touch.

The room features the Armadillo & Co Daisy rug and Emily Green hanging light. We couldn't leave out the essential toys and books, a must for a kid's room and of course, the gorgeous clothing from Tutu du Monde and Wilson & Frenchy.

You can watch how much fun Mel and the Tintirader team had creating this first nursery room look in this time lapse taken on the day.
