Ollie Ashenden Children's Shoes

When did you establish your stores?
Our store has been trading in Adelaide for 39 years and is named after Ollie, a well known figure in the local shoe industry at that time who managed the store for the first 20 years.

What do you sell in your stores?  What are the main brands you stock?

We sell school, fashion, sports and leisure shoes for infants to teenagers and stock brands such as - Clarks, Pablosky (exclusive SA stockist), Garvalin, Red Bootie, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Converse, Skechers, Ecco, Walnut, Bobux, Keen, Papaya, Tip Toey Joey, Ciao, Adidas, New Balance, Reebok, Asics, Puma, Vans etc.

We also sell slippers, uggs, Crocs, thongs, gumboots, slipper socks, socks, tights and various other accessories.

What’s your favourite product in store right now and why?

Difficult to choose just one!  We're loving the Bobux brand for kids who taking their first steps - because they are soft, light and flexible. Clarks for school shoes - because they come in full and half sizes and up to six different widths to fit just about everyone.  The Pablosky brand for gorgeous Spanish made fashion shoes, Red Bootie for quality at a good price, Garvalin for beautiful long boots, Agatha Ruiz for cute and quirky and the kids' current favourite would have to be the Skechers glittery, light-up Twinkle Toes!   But if I had to choose just one shoe right now…it would be the little pink leopard print Pablosky boot.

Why do people come to your stores? (what do you consider makes your store special/ stand out from others)  Why are your products special?

People come to our store because we care about feet and we care about fit.  We believe that comfortable, supportive and properly fitted shoes are really important for growing feet.  Our customers come from all over because they know that we are experts at what we do and they know they will receive excellent assistance, advice and good old-fashioned honest service.

Several of our staff have worked in the store for 20-30 years and we're now seeing kids that we served years ago bringing their own kids in.  We have some fantastic customers and it's lovely to be able to watch them grow up and then to meet their kids!

We stock good, supportive, high-quality shoes in full and half sizes and up to 6 different widths. lovely imported fashion brands and an extensive range of sport and leisure shoes.  We have shoes for all occasions and suitable for all budgets.

What is the question you are most commonly asked?

The question most commonly asked would have to be - when should my baby get their first pair of shoes? To which we answer - when they have been walking unaided, for approximately 6-8 weeks.  This allows them time to build up some confidence in their new found skill before you introduce another element for them to master - and they can also grow up to a size in those first few weeks as they use muscles they haven't used before.  If parents want something before then for warmth or protection - non slip socks are fine, or we have a range of very soft pre walkers that are suitable.
